We just found another place to have a breakfast buffet. It’s good and it’s reasonable. You can even get $1 off coupons at the Visitor’s Center for this feast at the Embers Restaurant. Since they don’t do lunch, their ample parking lot stays empty from breakfast to dinner. If you have breakfast at the Embers, you can leave your car there until 4 p.m. at no charge. The Embers Restaurant is on 24th Bayside, so you are just over a block from the Boardwalk and the beach. Not a bad deal.

Realizing that Restaurant Week in Ocean City was coming to an end, and we had not taken advantage of the event, we slipped out one day for lunch. Nowunderstand, I’m not one to pay $20 for lunch, but we wanted to be in the game. The Galaxy did not disappoint. The waiter gave us the Restaurant Week menu alongside their regular menu. For my two courses, I chose the skewered tenderloin over noodles and the rare tuna over rice with vegetables. Incredibly flavorful, high quality ingredients, and at $20a bargain. I took half of each home, and enjoyed it at dinner. Hope they do it again next year. I’ll check the website oceancityrestaurantweek.com and keep you posted.

Breakfast has always been touted as the most important meal of the day. I suppose it is until about noon. In any case, we are big fans of breakfast. So one beautiful morning, I suggested that we should have breakfast out. We looked through the local papers and decided on Hall’s breakfast buffet. What a treat we had in store for us. It was amazing! Breads, sweets, waffles, pancakes, fruit, sausage gravy, creamed beef, eggs, eggs and even eggs Benedict. Like they say at South of the Border ”I never sausage a place”! And, we loved it. Try it out.

After all the anticipation about Mother’s Day restaurant offerings, I awakened that day with a stuffy nose and sore throat. Well, the family refused to go out without me, and they made the most wonderful Mom’s day breakfast ever. The coffee was hot and strong too. As the day went on, I was feeling better, but not in the mood to go out or to cook. Must have been the pollen that made me so stuffy. In any case, we ordered from Pizza Hut. It was good as usual. What a nice Mother’s Day, we all just took it easy.

The abrupt closing of the Plantation House Restaurant in West Ocean City early this week sent groups scurrying for a new place to hold their events. Known for catering to everything from card parties to bus groups, and apparently pretty well booked, the owner simply locked the doors giving no notice. Moving trucks were spotted at the Plantation House and at the owner’s home in broad daylight. But, we imagine him stealing off into the dark of night, since we heard he owed a lot of people a lot of money.

Our kids are coming into town on Mother’s Day, and they said, “don’t cook on your day, mom”. That’s all I needed to hear to check out which of our favorite restaurants has the best Mother’s Day specials. Some, including the Coral Reef in the Holiday Inn Suites, offered complimentary shrimp cocktail or a glass of wine for mom, while others simply display their chef’s specials. Couldn’t find any with special pricing for mom so I think I’ll just peruse the printed menus and websites and pick the one that is sure to appeal to everyone in our group. Oh, this looks good. Phillips by the Sea has $3 off entrees plus free flowers and dessert. It’s oceanfront too. I love that. Still I’m going to look at Fresco’s, Liquid Assets and Jules. Let me know if you have any suggestions.

For those of us who love trying new restaurants, and can’t necessarily afford the upscale places, here’s some exciting news. June 2-9 marks the first ever restaurant week in Ocean City. It’s $20 for a two course lunch and $30 for a three course dinner. I got the website from an article in Oceana, check it out. It’s www.oceancityrestaurantweek.com

What a great weather forecast this weekend. I am really excited about getting out to the Marlin Club on Saturday night to see my friends. We’re supporting public art in Ocean City this weekend at a gathering overlooking the harbor. It doesn’t cost much and there is an auction where I’ve heard I can get a gold marlin pendant if I buy enough chances. I know Todd Ferrante at Park Place Jewelers who made the charm and it’s gorgeous. The food is always good there because the owners of the old Captain’s Table are the chefs. I’m not a member of the Marlin Club, but I can go for this fundraiser where the money goes to Public Art in Ocean City. If you all want to go, you can probably buy tickets at the door. We’re going at 6 pm. Hope to see you there!
